SSAA Para Main Range Closure April 2026 Update
To our Para Members
The club has been advised by SAPOL Firearms Branch that they are currently investigating a report of an incident. As part of the investigation, SAPOL Firearms Branch attended the range on the 16th of July 2025 and have advised that the main range (300yd range) is closed until further notice for all shooting activities. Currently SAPOL have advised that only the main range is closed at this time. All other ranges at SSAA Para (eg pistol ranges, shotgun, 100mrimfire range, 50m range ect) remain open for our club matches to use.
SSAA Para has submitted a proposal to SAPOL to modify the main range in January 2026. We are waiting for a response from SAPOL to approve the proposal. Once it has been approved, we will start works on the main range as soon as possible. We are unsure how long it will take to receive approval back.
The SSAA Para Council will continue to work with SAPOL Firearms Branch to resolve the issue and put in place actions to allow us to open up the range again.
Subject to our current range certificate, we will relocate as many of the club matches that use the main range to our other ranges. Please speak to your section captains to confirm.
We will continue to provide updates on the SSAA Para website as we are currently unsure how long this investigation by SAPOL will last.
If you have any questions, then please contact the section captains you shoot with, or the club president on 0419 805 299
Thank you for your understanding.
